At which golf course did Jim Furyk shoot 58 for the lowest score in PGA Tour history?
TPC River Highlands in Cromwell
Jim Furyk shot an incredible 58 on the PGA Tour during the final round of the Travelers Championship at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut on August 7, 2016.
TPC River Highlands is an exclusive private golf club and part of the Tournament Players Club network operated by the PGA Tour. Since 1984 it has been the venue for the annual Travelers Championship.
The course is par 70 and 6,841 yards (6,255 m) long.
In his round of 58 Furyk hit all 18 greens in regulation, made 10 birdies and one eagle and needed just 24 putts.
Furyk is also the first player to shoot two rounds below 60 and he was the oldest to do it. He was 46 years old at the time.
Did you know that Furyk's playing partner, Miguel Angel Carballo, mistakenly marked him down for an additional birdie on the par-4 14th. Furyk made a par. Luckily they found the mistake before signing and turning in the scorecard. If they hadn't corrected the mistake he would have been disqualified.
Jim Furyk's Professional Career
Furyk turned professional in 1992 and quickly established himself on the Nike Tour, winning his first tournament in 1993. He joined the PGA Tour in 1994 and maintained a streak of winning at least one tournament each year from 1998 to 2003, a feat only matched by Tiger Woods during that period.
Major Achievements
U.S. Open Champion (2003): Furyk's most significant victory came at the U.S. Open, where he tied the record for the lowest score in tournament history.
PGA Tour Player of the Year (2010): This award recognized his outstanding performance, including three tournament victories that year.
Record Holder: In 2016, Furyk made history by shooting his 12-under-par 58 during the final round of the Travelers Championship, marking the lowest score ever recorded in a PGA Tour event.
Ryder Cup and Team Competitions
Furyk has been a key player in several Ryder Cup teams, participating nine times between 1997 and 2018. He served as captain for the U.S. team in 2018 and at the 2024 Presidents Cup, having previously captained the team in 2011.
How far is the longest drive in PGA Tour history?
The official longest drive in PGA Tour history has been achieved by Davis Love III. He hit a 476 yards (435 metres) drive on the 18th hole at the Kapalua's Plantation Course at the 2004 Mercedes Championship.
In 2003 the PGA started using the laser based ShotLink system to measure the length of shots.
Shots like Carl Cooper's 787 yard (719 metres) drive at the 1992 Texas open, which bounced along a concrete path, don’t officially count.
Dustin Johnson also holds an unofficial longest drive record. At the 2018 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play hit a 489 yard (447 metres) drive. But unfortunately for him stats for match play events are unofficial and don’t count towards historic rankings.
The 498 yard (455 metres) drive Tiger Woods hit at the 2002 Mercedes Championship also did not count because the PGA since revised their figures and have removed 27 drives from that particular tournament.
Another unofficial longest drive happened on the 25th of September 1974. Mike Austin smashed a 515-yard (470 metres) drive on a 450 yard par-4 using a steel-shafted, 43.5-inch persimmon driver and balata ball playing in the US National Seniors Open Championship at Desert Rose Resort, Las Vegas.

What is the oldest golf club in North America?
Royal Montreal Golf Club is the oldest golf club in North America.
Royal Montreal is the oldest golf club in North America, having been founded in 1873. In that year, a small group of eight gentlemen sat in a dockside office and formed the Montreal Golf Club.
Eleven years later, in 1884, permission was granted by Queen Victoria to use the “Royal” prefix.
The first golf course was a 9-hole layout on Fletcher’s Field, part of Mount Royal Park, which was shared by the red-coated golfers and other citizens relaxing in what was then the outskirts of Montreal.
In 1896, the Club moved to Dixie, in the parish of Dorval, where it remained until the pressures of urban growth again dictated a decision to move. The clubhouse at Dixie became Queen of Angels Academy for Girls and is now Académie Sainte-Anne.
The last move was to Ile Bizard in 1959, where 45 holes were designed and constructed by Dick Wilson. The Blue Course, updated by Rees Jones, continues to be ranked as one of the “100 Greatest Courses in the World”.
Royal Montreal was one of the five founding Clubs of the Royal Canadian Golf Association, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1995. The RCGA is the governing body of golf in Canada and organizes the major national championships, including the Canadian Open, the first of which was played at Royal Montreal in 1904. Since then, the Club has played host to the Canadian Open in 1908, 1913, 1926, 1950, 1975, 1980, 1997, 2001 and 2014. Of special note is that the Canadian Open was won in 1954 by Pat Fletcher, who served as the Club’s Head Professional from 1955 to 1975. This was the last Canadian Open victory, to date, by a Canadian player.
In September 2007, Royal Montreal wrote another chapter in its history when it hosted The Presidents Cup; an event which enables the World’s best non-European players to compete in an international team match play competition against the Top 12 PGA TOUR players in the United States.

Through an unfortunate home handyman accident Hans Hess lost three fingers on his left hand.
During this time Mike Souchak and his assistant pro, Tom Cosmos, regularly played Saturday mornings with Innisbrook founder, Harvey Jones. Jones and Cosmos would team up against 'Souch' in an alternate shot format - with one important caveat. Jones and Cozzie negotiated the rules such that they got to choose Souch's partner every week.
One Saturday morning Jones and Cosmos turned up with Hans Hess, his 2 digit left hand duct taped to a 6 iron.
As told by Harvey's son, Sam Jones, Sam will never forget the look on Souch's face. 'Dad' and Cozzie could barely get off the ground from laughing so hard. Sam doesn't remember who won that match but says it really doesn't matter. 'Hansie was thrilled and Souch had his most memorable playing partner ever!
