The European Tour is currently known as the DP World Tour for sponsorship reasons. DP World is an Emirati multinational logistics company based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The European Tour was established by the British-based Professional Golfers' Association in the 1970s. In 1984 responsibility was transferred to an independent PGA European Tour organisation.
Many of the world's very best golfers have made the European Tour their home at various times including Seve Ballesteros, Greg Norman, Colin Montgomerie, Rory McIlroy and Ernie Els.
The European tour was retitled as the “DP World Tour” in November 2021.
The multinational logistics company DP World was formed in 2005 in Dubai. It handles 7 million containers that are brought in by around 70,000 vessels annually. This equates to 10% of the global container traffic.
