More about Rich Harvest Farms Golf Course

In 1987, Jerry Rich began to develop Rich Harvest Farms on his 1,820 acre property out of a love of golf and golf course design. What started out as one golf hole eventually turned into an 18-hole private golf course, built and perfected over a period of 10 years.

Set across 1,820 acres of rolling countryside in Sugar Grove, Illinois, Rich Harvest Farms is one of the Midwest’s most exclusive and demanding golf destinations. Conceived and built by visionary entrepreneur and Northern Illinois University alumnus Jerry Rich, the course evolved from a single practice hole in 1987 into a masterfully designed 18-hole championship layout that officially opened in 1999.

The Course

The course is consistently ranked in Golf Digest’s “America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses”.

From the professional tees the course is over 7,700 yards (7,000 m) long.

Rich Harvest Farms features diverse terrain—from wooded corridors and rolling farmland to open, links-style holes. Multiple tee boxes offer varying angles and distances, while greens range from intimate 1,700-square-foot targets to expansive 12,000-square-foot surfaces, making every shot a test of accuracy, creativity, and nerve.

Jerry Rich

Jerry Rich’s lifelong passion for golf design began as a caddie, sketching hole layouts on scorecards during his youth. Frustrated by traditional architects who either prioritized housing developments or couldn’t commit the time, Rich took on the design himself. Over more than a decade, he shaped each hole with a personal touch, guided by a bold risk-reward philosophy that demands both strategy and precision.
