How do you qualify for the Masters?

You need to meet any one of 19 criteria. You do and you're in. You don't and you're not. (Exemptions are possible but they're rare.)

You have to be invited by the committee of Augusta National to get a start in the Masters.


There are 19 pre-set criteria to earn an invitation and if you can tick any of those boxes you can watch your mail with anticipation:

  1. All previous winners are invited back for the rest of their life.Nice if you're in this select group.
  2. Every winner of the US Open for the previous 5 years
  3. Every winner of the British Open for the previous 5 years
  4. Every winner of the USPGA championship for the previous 5 years
  5. Every winner of  The Players Championship for the previous 3 years
  6. The current Olympic Gold Medalist
  7. The current US Amateur Champion  and the runner-up
  8. The current British Amateur Champion
  9. The current  Asia-Pacific Amateur Champion
  10. The current  Latin America Amateur Champion
  11. The current US Mid-Amateur Champion
  12. The first 12 players, including ties, in the previous Masters Tournament
  13. The first 4 players, including ties, in the most recent 2020 US Open Championship
  14. The first 4 players, including ties, in the most recent British Open Championship
  15. The first 4 players, including ties, in the most recent PGA Championship
  16. Individual winners of PGA Tour events during the last 12 months that award a full-point allocation for the season-ending Tour Championship.
  17. Those qualifying for the Tour Championship
  18. The 50 leaders on the Final Official World Golf Ranking for the previous calendar year
  19. The 50 leaders on the Official World Golf Ranking published during the week prior to the current Masters Tournament
