McIlroy withdrew from the 2023 RBC Heritage. He had already missed one designated tournament in 2023 and so had to forfeit $3 million.
In response to LIV, the new PGA Tour structure includes designated tournaments where nominated 'top' players have to compete. Each player is allowed to miss one designated tournament each year but will be fined if they miss a second.
McIlroy, along with others, was very involved in the discussions around these tournaments and other changes and to see him miss two designated tournaments so early on will surprise many people.
