The Callaway Golf Company was founded by Ely Callaway Jr.

Callaway had been successful in both the textile and wine industries and, after selling his vineyards, he bought half of Hickory Sticks USA. The company was renamed Callaway Hickory Stick USA and so started Callaway Golf.
