Ryutaro Nagano was born on the 6th of May 1988 in Mashiki, Kumamoto, Japan.

In 2006 he won the National High School Golf Championship.

Together with Yuta Ikeda, Yuki Usami and Daisuke Yasumoto he won a bronze medal at the 2007 Summer Universiade in Bangkok.

He turned pro in 2008.

He qualified for his first major, the 2021 Open Championship at Royal St George's Golf Club. In his first two rounds he shot 70 and 72 to miss the cut by a single stroke.

Ryutaro Nagano tied for 20th at the 2023 US Opean at the Los Angeles Country Club.

He was a torch bearer at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games who carried the torch through his hometown of Kumamoto.
