More about The Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club

Located only 20 miles west of Portland the Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club has two championship golf courses.

The Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club opened in 1992.

Tucked amid the scenic farmland of North Plains, Oregon, just 20 miles west of Portland, Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club stands as one of the Pacific Northwest’s premier golf destinations. This acclaimed 36-hole facility, founded in 1992, combines natural beauty, strategic design, and a rich championship legacy. With two distinct courses—Witch Hollow and Ghost Creek—both crafted by renowned architect Bob Cupp, the club offers an unforgettable experience for private members and public guests alike.

Pumpkin Ridge was the brainchild of developers Marvin French, Gaylord Davis, and Barney Hyde, who envisioned a course that embodied the character of the Pacific Northwest while meeting championship standards. Backed by Japanese businessman Shigeru Ito and his daughter Kumiko Rodewald, construction began in 1990, culminating in the club’s celebrated debut in April 1992.

That same year, Golf Digest named Ghost Creek the “Best New Public Course in America”, while Witch Hollow was honored as the #2 Best New Private Course, instantly establishing Pumpkin Ridge as a must-play destination.

Both courses were designed by golf course architect Bob Cupp.

Two Courses, Distinct Identities

Witch Hollow (Private)

The Witch Hollow course is a par 72, 7,071 yards which blends in with its natural surroundings, the Cascade Mountains.

The Witch Hollow course was named the number 2 Best New Private Course in the US when it opened in 1992 by Golf Digest.

The Witch Hollow was also home to the 1996 US Amateur Championship where Tiger Woods won his third consecutive US Amateur title.

The exclusive Witch Hollow course measures 7,017 yards, par 72, and is known for its championship-tested layout. Routed through dense stands of fir, maple, and oak, it demands precision shot-making and rewards bold strategy. Its large, undulating greens and natural elevation shifts challenge even elite players. Witch Hollow has hosted marquee events, including the U.S. Women’s Open (1997, 2003) and the LPGA Safeway Classic (2009–2012). The finishing 18th hole, a memorable dogleg with water in play, was famously called the favorite hole in the world by LPGA legend Nancy Lopez.

Ghost Creek (Public)

The Ghost Creek course is a par 71, 6,839 yards situated in picturesque wetlands and dense forests.

Ghost Creek offers a world-class public golf experience. At 6,839 yards, par 71, it flows naturally through wetlands and meadows, with Ghost Creek weaving through several holes to create risk-reward scenarios. Designed in the spirit of traditional, "old-world" golf, the course respects the land’s contours and delivers a peaceful yet strategic round for players of all skill levels. The routing emphasises walkability and connection to the Pacific Northwest’s lush environment.

Clubhouse and Amenities

The Witch Hollow clubhouse offers a refined, country estate atmosphere with high-end amenities: luxurious locker rooms, private dining, a full-service bar, and warm, inviting lounges. It serves as a gathering place for members and guests to relax and socialise in understated elegance.

The Ghost Creek clubhouse welcomes public players with all the comforts for a complete golf experience, including a well-appointed golf shop, restaurant, and practice facilities designed to prepare golfers for the challenge ahead.
