Who designed the golf course at The Riviera Country Club, home of The Genesis Invitational?

George C Thomas, an amateur architect was commissioned by the Los Angeles Athletic Club. Actually, he was not truly commissioned as Thomas agreed to take on the project, free of charge.

It took 18 months to develop the golf course at The Riviera Country Club before opening in 1927.

George C Thomas observed some of America's greatest course architects.  He was a founding member of Sunnybrook Golf Course constructed by Donald Ross.  He was also enjoyed friendships with Hugh Wilson, designer of the East Course and the West Course at Merion Golf Club, George Crump who designed Pine Valley Golf Club, and A.W. Tillinghast.

The course is ranked as one of the top 50 golf courses in the world and a top 25 in the United States.

The Riviera Country Club is currently home to The Genesis Invitational and will also host golf's elite in 2028 as the official site of the Olympics golf tournament.
