Viktor Hovland was born on the 18th September 2997 in Oslo, Norway.

His father, Harald, picked up golf while he was living and working in the United States (St. Louis) as an engineer. He brought golf clubs back to Norway and taught Viktor to play at age 11 at the Oslo Golf Club. Viktor spent most of the year practicing golf at an indoor driving range.

As an amateur golfer, Viktor Hovland won the 2014 Norwegian Amateur Championship and the 2018 US Amateur championship. He played college golf at Oklahoma St., where he was teammates with Matthew Wolff.

The US Amateur championship win allowed Viktor to play in the 2019 Masters, where he finished tied for 32nd and low amateur in the field.

As an amateur he won the 2013 Norgescup 7, 2013 Team Norway Junior Tour 6, 2014 Alcaidesa Winter Open, 2014 Titleist Tour 2, 2014 Norwegian Amateur Golf Championship (Norgesmesterskapet), 2018 Valspar Collegiate, 2018 US Amateur, 2018 Royal Oaks Intercollegiate and 2019 The Prestige

Hovland turned professional later in 2019 and earned his PGA tour card that year with a strong finish on the Web.com tour.

He was tied for 4th at the 2022 Open Championship. He was tied for 7th at the 2023 Masters. He was tied for 2nd at the 2022 PGA Championship. HE was tied for 3rd at the 2024 PGA Championship.
