More about TPC Twin Cities

Located in Blaine, Minnesota, just north of Minneapolis and St. Paul, TPC Twin Cities is a premier private golf club known for its championship pedigree, natural beauty, and world-class amenities. Opened in 2000, it is the only PGA Tour-owned property in Minnesota, and serves as a standout destination for both members and professional players alike.

The 18 hole championship course is 7,164 yards (6,551m) long. It was designed by Arnold Palmer in consultation with Minnesota native Tom Lehman. The course opened in 2000.

Set on a former sod farm, the course incorporates native rolling terrain, mature trees, and 27 water hazards, which come into play on 15 holes, offering both aesthetic appeal and strategic complexity.

One of the most recognized features is Palmer’s signature beach bunker on the par-3 7th hole, a visually dramatic hazard that demands accuracy. Elevated greens, sprawling bunkers, and expansive fairways define the course’s personality, encouraging aggressive play while penalizing imprecision. The finishing hole, a 596-yard par-5, is guarded by water and often decides matches with its risk-reward setup.

TPC Twin Cities is lauded for its wide, forgiving fairways paired with 72 bunkers and numerous water hazards, striking a balance between playability and challenge. The course features five par-4s over 450 yards and three par-5s over 590 yards, making both distance and control essential for scoring.

To accommodate all skill levels, the course offers six sets of tees, including a family-friendly forward tee. The greens average around 6,500 square feet, with subtle breaks and speeds that hover around 12 on the Stimpmeter, rewarding finesse and touch over brute strength.

In 2018, the course underwent a renovation led by Tom Lehman to prepare for the PGA Tour’s arrival. While the member layout remains a par 72, the course plays as a par 71 during the 3M Open, with the 3rd hole converted from a par-5 to a long par-4.

PGA Tour Venue: The 3M Open

From 2001 to 2018, TPC Twin Cities hosted the 3M Championship on the PGA Tour Champions circuit, attracting legends like Bernhard Langer and Hale Irwin. In 2019, it transitioned to host the 3M Open, a full-field PGA Tour event held each summer.

The 3M Open has quickly become a player and fan favorite, with the course offering a fair but demanding test. Wind conditions, firm greens, and penal water hazards have made scoring more difficult in recent years, enhancing the tournament's competitiveness. Winners have included Matthew Wolff (2019), Tony Finau (2022), and Lee Hodges (2023), highlighting the caliber of talent the event attracts.
