He turned professional in 2008 and won his first European Tour event, The Porsche European Open, in 2021. He shot a final round of 65 to win by 2 shots. Runners up were Thomas Detry, Edoardo Molinari, Matthew Southgate and Darius van Driel 2 shots behind.

Armitage gained recognition on the PGA EuroPro Tour, where he was named Rookie of the Year in 2013 after an impressive season that included multiple wins. He transitioned to the Challenge Tour, where he continued to develop his skills and ultimately earned his card for the European Tour.
