Titleist as a brand started with a golf ball created by Philip E. Young and manufactured by his company, Acushnet.

Fortune Brands bought Acushnet in 1976 and held it until 2011 when it sold Acushnet, including the Titleist golf manufacturing division, to Fila Korea for $1.23 billion.
